This 2 piece Claire McCardell dress (circa 1950) was sent to me
by the Phoenix Art Museum for restoration.
The dress was stained in numerous places and smelt like it had
been stored in a damp basement for the past 50 years.
Claire McCardell was the founder of American
ready-to-wear women's fashion and creator of what has become known
as the "American Look" - casual but sophisticated clothes with a
functional design.
The following before and after photos reflect the
transformation.
