Every dry cleaner -
especially those that use wood, wire and paper hangers - asks you
to return your hangers for "recycling".
Many throw in one of those triangular-shaped boxes (often
referred to as a "hanger caddie") to facilitate collecting your
hangers. Some even provide you with a credit for every hanger
caddie returned.
Dry cleaners usually promote their program by telling you that
"the program helps alleviate the problem of 3.5 billion wire
hangers that end up in landfills every year, totalling 312,000
pounds of steel." (Interestingly, these often quoted statistics
haven't changed in 10 years!). They also tell you that you're doing
your part for the environment by recycling your hangers.
And why do they really want you to "recycle" your
hangers? Because they believe they can save some money by reusing
them.
At RAVE FabriCARE, we take a different approach ...
As regards our white
plastic mens and ladies contoured hangers and our white plastic
clip hangers, we do reuse those hangers.
But only after carefully cleaning each one with an
antibacterial disinfectant.
As regards wood, wire and paper hangers, we'd never dream of
reusing those hangers. Instead, we collect those
hangers and deliver them quarterly to various charities to be used
in their thrift stores.
And why don't we reuse those wood, wire and paper hangers?
Because those hangers can't be disinfected prior to
reuse. You'll better understand our policy when you
consider that the cleaning process includes sanitizing and
deodorizing your fine garments. Why then would we consider
packaging your sanitized and deodorized garments using wood, wire
and paper hangers that have been who-knows-where? Especially in
today's environment when clients are concerned about bacteria and
pests (consider, for example, today's concern with bed bugs).
At RAVE FabriCARE, you can trust us to do the right thing - when
it comes to caring for your fine garments. And
when it comes to the hangers we reuse to protect their shape and drape.
How can I help you?
