On April 24, 2011, nearly 70 vintage cars, all at least 50 years
old, set out from San Francisco on a 4 day, 1,000 mile rally
through the scenic back roads of Northern California. Driving along
the winding roads of Marin, Sonoma and Napa provided a perfect
scenic back-drop for these beautiful vintage cars.
This year marked the 21st Annual California
Mille. The event is modeled after the Italian version,
the Mille Miglia, held in Brescia, Italy, every year.
Many of the California Mille participants have previously
participated in the Italian road race. In fact, that participation
led to the birth of the California Mille.
So what has all this got to do with RAVE FabriCARE?
Well, it's quite simple actually.
When the cars arrived at the starting point, the famed Fairmont
Hotel in San Francisco, they were greeted with a steady drizzle. By
the Monday morning start, the drizzle had matured into a rain
storm.
During the course of all that rain, red dye from some outside
source bled onto the heavy canvas tonneau cover of a 1952 Jaguar
XK-120 driven by Richard Mattei and James Stokes.
In addition, the tonneau cover was fairly dirty from the dust
and dirt that had accumulated on it during the various overnight
stops.
After the event, the car was delivered to British Automotive Repair in Scottsdale, Arizona, for a complete
overhaul and detailing.
Naturally, Gregory Nel, owner of British Automotive Repair,
called on RAVE FabriCARE to restore and waterproof the tonneau
cover.
The results can be seen in the photos below.
When it comes to anything vintage - whether it's a
1980's Christian Dior couture vintage dress coat
or a 1950's vintage tonneau cover, you can count on RAVE FabriCARE
for the highest quality restoration available.
