A client in Houston,
Texas sent us a Brooks Brothers vintage bib-style tuxedo shirt
plus 3 detachable collars for restoration. He asked for "walk by
itself" starch on the bib, collars and cuffs and no starch on the
rest of the tuxedo shirt.
Although he didn't specify the age or history of
the shirt, I can only assume that it belonged to a close relative
or friend and that he wanted to preserve the tux for sentimental
reasons and/or to wear it to an upcoming event.
The shirt was in distressed condition.
Specifically, the shirt exhibited the following issues:
• Burns
• Water stains
• Rust
• Mold.
Given the fragility of the cotton fibers, we
clearly had to proceed with a great degree of caution. The entire
restoration process took two weeks and involved multiple processes.
We were able to remove EVERY STAIN except for one small, very light
yellow spot on the bib.
The following before and after photos reflect the
transformation from distressed to near perfect. (Please note that
the completed tux was pristine white. Any variation in color is the
result of my non-professional photography.)

If this is what we can do on a distressed vintage
tux, imagine what we can do for your dress and casual shirts!
