Ron Davis is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played
for the New York Yankees from 1978 through 1981. He wore the number
39 jersey.
Late last year, Ron
rediscovered his New York Yankees equipment bag that had been in
storage for almost 30 years. Amongst other
things, the bag contained his New York Yankees jacket.
The problem was that rats had eaten through the equipment bag
and nested in his jacket. As a result, the jacket was now covered
in rat feces and rat urine.
The jacket was badly stained with rat feces and had a pungent
odor. In addition, the hardware - all the snaps and the hang chain
- had rusted and stained and weakened the underlying fabric.
Furthermore, the thread used on various seams throughout the jacket
had rotted and the various parts of the jacket were literally
falling apart.
RAVE FabriCARE was tasked with restoring the jacket to as close
to original condition as possible.
- We removed all the staining.
- We eliminated the odor.
- We removed the rusty hang chain and reconstructed the
underlying label.
- We removed the rusted snaps and replaced them with color
matching snaps that were of the period.
- We removed all the rotted seam thread and "remade" the
jacket.
The results of this restoration are reflected in the before and
after photos below:
